Peter the Berliner

I was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1928 and belonged to Hitler’s Rundfunkspielschar Berlin. My Nazi brown shirt was adorned with an appropriate patch on my upper left arm sleeve.

From 1942 on, I participated in entertaining Berlin’s radio audiences with spirited songs of Nazi superiority every Sunday at 1 PM. From time to time, I played bit parts in weekly news reels that preceded every movie the Berlin public attended in local movie houses. One of our favorite films at the time was an American Westerner called “Sergeant Berry." Once, I had to play the news reel part of a youngster living in the then-occupied Czechoslovakia. Supposedly, he welcomed the German occupational forces with open arms. Every Berliner who saw this had no idea that it was filmed under their noses in Berlin-Babelsberg (the German Hollywood at the time) and not in the far-off Czechoslovakia itself. We, as bit actors, had to swear to keep this ruse a secret in the name of our Fuehrer Adolf Hitler, who taught us to lie at an early age. Thankfully, he died soon thereafter. Every German who attended movies was first exposed to propaganda reels regarding the glories of the German Reich and its unbeatable army. After the war, I lived in America and later in Guatemala. My life started with war, hunger, and poverty, but I eventually became comfortable and prosperous. I then decided to share excess funds with the poor and the oppressed Indians of the Guatemalan jungles. My adventures were published in two books available on Amazon.
